Put AI on the Morning Shift

We love AI tools that save us from doing the same little task over and over again.

One of the easiest ways we’ve found to make AI genuinely useful is to give it a recurring research job. Tell it what to look for, choose when it should show up, and let it bring the useful stuff to you.

Think of it as a tiny research assistant that clocks in before you do. No spreadsheets full of robot instructions. No automation engineering degree. Just one clear job and a schedule.

If you can explain what you regularly look up, you can build one of these today.

A simple first play: the Morning Markets Brief

Markets are an easy example because something changes every day. We are not asking AI what to buy or sell. We are asking it to do the morning reading and hand us the useful headlines with a little context.

Here is the job we would give it:

Every weekday at 6:30 AM, research the most meaningful market developments from the last 24 hours.

Give me:
- The five developments that matter most
- A plain-English explanation of why each one matters
- The companies or sectors most affected
- Important earnings, economic reports, or Federal Reserve events happening today
- What meaningfully changed since yesterday’s brief
- Links to reliable sources

Keep it concise. Do not give buy, sell, or investment advice. If nothing important happened, say that instead of filling the page with noise.

That is it. We now have a useful briefing waiting with the coffee, not another hour of tabs waiting to be opened.

Why this prompt works

There is no magical phrase hiding in there. We simply told AI:

• When to work — weekday mornings
• What to research — meaningful market developments
• What matters to us — changes, impact, and today’s events
• What we do not want — investment advice and filler
• What the answer should look like — five concise items with sources

You do not need a magical prompt. You just need to give AI a clear job.

Set it up in ChatGPT

• Open Scheduled in the ChatGPT sidebar, then start a new task. You can also ask ChatGPT in a chat to schedule the job for you.
• Paste the prompt, choose when it should run, and confirm the schedule.
• Check the first couple of reports. If they are too broad, tell ChatGPT what to focus on next time.

Done. ChatGPT can run the task in the background and collect the results in Scheduled. Availability can depend on your plan or workspace.

Set it up in Claude

• Open Claude Cowork, then choose Scheduled in the sidebar.
• Select New task, then either Create with Claude or Set up manually.
• Paste the prompt, choose the cadence, and save it.

Claude’s scheduled Cowork tasks are currently available on paid plans and can run even when your computer is asleep.

This works for normal jobs, too

You do not need to trade stocks, run a tech company, or own seventeen monitors. The best scheduled task is usually built around the work already sitting in front of you.

🚗 Car salesperson: walk onto the floor prepared

Every Monday morning, give me a concise update on new models, pricing, incentives, recalls, production changes, competitor news, and the questions customers are most likely to ask this week. Focus on the brands and market I give you, link your sources, and tell me what changed since last Monday.

Now Monday starts with a quick briefing instead of a scavenger hunt through manufacturer pages, dealership emails, and industry news.

🎨 House painter: find the next good opportunity

A one-person painting business could ask AI to review new public real-estate listings in its service area and flag homes where visible cosmetic work might be useful. Maybe the walls are unusually dark. Maybe one room looks dated. Maybe the listing itself mentions freshening things up.

Every weekday, research new public home listings in [SERVICE AREA]. Surface up to five where the public listing photos or description suggest interior or exterior painting could be useful. Explain the observable reason, include the listing source, and do not invent contact details or make assumptions about the owner.

Then comes the second useful play: research task → writing assistant.

When AI surfaces a real opportunity, paste in the listing details and ask:

Using only the public listing details below, draft a short, friendly outreach note offering painting help. Mention one specific, observable reason the service could be useful, keep it human and low-pressure, and leave the recipient and contact details for me to add. Do not invent anything.

AI has not found a secret list of homeowners. It has helped a small business notice a public opportunity and write a thoughtful note faster. A human still reviews it, finds the right public contact, and decides whether to send it.

🔬 Researcher: build a tiny personal research desk

Every Friday, research meaningful developments in battery recycling from the past seven days. Cover new technology, funding, commercial deployments, regulations, partnerships, and research. Explain what changed since the previous report, link reliable sources, skip repeated stories, and say so if the week was quiet.

That is a personal research desk without subscribing to twelve more newsletters and hoping the useful story is hiding somewhere between them.

The formula worth saving

Once you have one idea, use this for almost anything:

Every [WHEN], research [WHAT] covering [TIME PERIOD].

Focus on [WHAT MATTERS TO ME].

Ignore [NOISE I DO NOT CARE ABOUT].

Give me [FORMAT I WANT].

Include sources, keep it simple, and tell me if nothing meaningful happened.

Once we start looking for little recurring jobs like this, they are everywhere.
